Meet Jessica Mcglyn
I’m Jess McGlyn, founder of Catalynics, Inc. My passion is to help professionals like you feel confident and thrive at work. I’ve been a professional in the environmental field for 30 years. I’ve worked, at different levels, in a variety of organizations and functions. I know how important soft skills are for career success. How we communicate, how we build relationships, how strategically we think and behave really matters.

Starting as an individual contributor, then moving up to manager and director positions, I’ve had to lead from different levels. Whether managing people, projects, or entire functions, every role required new thinking and behavior to influence and inspire people to follow.
Let me tell you a true story. My very first job was as a wildlife biologist for a timber company. I knew lots about forest science but not much more. In that role, I recommended forest management practices that would also benefit the environment. But I knew nothing about the business. I couldn’t read a Profit & Loss statement. I was a pretty lousy communicator and had no idea how to sell an idea. As a result, I found myself in lots of conflicts and my ideas being dismissed.
Luckily, someone in the company saw my struggles and took me under their wing. With their guidance, I learned how to listen better, how to make a strong business case, and how to navigate office politics. With their help, I started gaining traction. My colleagues began to listen to me and use my ideas. This made me feel more confident and satisfied - I was finally having an impact in my career. I want you to have the same confidence, satisfaction and impact in your profession.
Having worked in matrixed corporations, global non-profits, industry coalitions, and start-ups, I’ve discovered that soft skills and leadership matter in every organization. These are skills, thinking and behavior anyone can learn and continue to improve over time.
Over the last few years, I’ve used these career lessons to help professionals like you thrive at work. I’m also a Professional Certified Coach (ICF), trained at American University’s Leadership Coaching for Organizational Performance Program. I’ve coached, advised and trained hundreds of professionals, from individual contributors to C-Suite Executives on soft skills and leadership.
